I've learned quite a bit recently about how many manufacturers of diamond art painting kits and paint by numbers, do not have proper licensing to sell the artists or companies work. They make copies of digital images, change the name of the artwork, or just remove the name, and sell illegal copies of the art and make a nice profit. This is known as copyright infringement.
Since learning this, I have started researching images to find out if I can legally use the artwork. I also have inquires out to licensing companies.
I'm not shaking my finger at you. I did the same thing. I spent hours adding beautiful paintings to my website. Then I learned the ugly truth. The sellers I was buying from were lacking in knowledge and/or integrity.
My website is different then other diamond are painting sites because I won't knowingly sell artwork that I have not licensed or is not available in the public domain. Because of this, my prices are higher.
There are other companies out there who sell diamond art paintings and legally license artwork and pay the artists. I encourage you to support us and not those that make money off stolen art.
If you see a cartoon character or name brand items that you recognize and the cost of the kit you are buying is cheap, then most likely, they do not have the right to reproduce and make money from that art.
What can you do? When you see an image you like, do a reverse image search and look for an artists name or licensing company. may have to dig deep. You can do a google image search or use tineye.com. Dig deep.
It took me a long time to research one particular image because it was found on so many websites. I'm glad I kept digging. The artwork belonged to Thomas Kincaid. Yikes! I didn't want to get into trouble with anyone, let alone his artwork.
You will see the artists name on the paintings I will have reproduced for your hobby. Some artist have freely given their work to the public domain. They choose whether or not to give their name. So, sometimes, you may not see a name in the product description, if that is the case.
